We lost another Xenite. Michelle De La Rosa made the journey to the Elysian Fields just before midnight on July 29th, after a less than 2 month fight with Cancer. She was 39 years old. A well-loved and well-respected Xenite, Merpup and a huge part of the staff of the RAOB. Not only did she take care of a lot of the daily updates for the Academy, she provided graphics on some of the 'what's new' pages, the bard challenges/prizes and also graced the covers of some of your favorite books. The Xenaverse is a poorer place with her passing.
Loads for you tonight so I won't rabbit on. *g*
Safe trip Ilene. Hope the weather where you're going is better than it is here.
Well the weekend is here, thank the gods!!

Hi all. Ilene here, one more time. This is it for me for a week or two. I'm winging my way to the land of my Grandparents on Sunday - Russia. I know what you're thinking and yes, I am crazy to take a trip in the middle of trying to move. All I can say is the trip came up, led by a friend so I know it will be a good one…too good to pass up. My philosophy is what needs to get done will! I've have two days after the trip before the movers come.
Hi all. Ilene here, so it must be a new week. They are kind of flowing together. After all, when you spend most of your time packing, it's hard to know the day without a calendar. Oh, I did take a two-day break to read the new Harry Potter book. Nice finish to a great series!
Congrats to Ilene on her new house. Well Friday is here and I couldnt be happier.

Ok we lost yesterday's game. We tie the score then we lose?? I just don't
get it, where is my THUD???
Hi all. Ilene here, one more time. Well, this time tomorrow, I will be a homeowner! With all the rain the Midwest is getting, I hope it's still a home and not an ark!?!
Hi all. Ilene here, wondering what on earth I've done to myself. While packing for the big move to the new house, I also have to get ready for my trip to Russia!!! Can you say bite off more than I can chew? But I am looking forward to both, just like I'm looking forward to reading some great stories. Speaking of….here's today's update to enjoy!
Oh look - I get the ides again. *g*
LIBERTY NEWS
OMG we suck soo bad that last game! Also not one NY person made it to the
all star game. I hang my head in shame!
Hi all. Ilene here for day 2 this week! Ok, the sun was shining and only in the 70s in the Midwest after days of rain, heat and humidity. So I take the dogs to the dog park and they promptly find the only mud puddle in the whole place (the only dogs to do so by the way) and proceed to lay down and wallow in it!!!!! Can you say unplanned bathtime? And, did I mention the smaller dog is 95 pounds?
Hi all. It is I starting my new schedule of updating you twice a week! I'm back from my week in Philly, where our Union heard from eight of the potential presidential candidates. It's amazing how long they can talk and have you think that they really get what the issues are without really telling us what they will do on that issue, which in this case was education!
Identity
by Lena on The Athenaeum [alt, uber, incomplete]
This story is based on facts. The women may resemble a certain Warrior
Princess and her Battling Bard. They are fantasy. Hurricane Katrina is very
real. The fact that there are more bodies to be identified then the
Coroner's office can handle nearly two years post -Katrina is true. The
hospital horrors did happen. Many of the facts in this story come straight
from my own experiences and those of my friends, loved ones, and
acquaintances. The nightmare is not over yet for hundreds of people.

Tales
of the Airaito: In the Crimson Tide by N.D. Matsunga and AJ Akechi on
Merwolf's Academy of Bards [alt/unfinished/original]
It is a universe far removed from the realm of humanity as we know it today.
The race that was once Humanity had fallen, known now only as the Kojin
(Those of Ancient Times) by the Airaito whose ancestors adapted those
forgotten cultures to their own. It is now 3130th, the Last Year of
Enlightenment, and a new chapter dawns amidst the realm of the ordinary and
the great. The Sirn'oan Kingdom now stands on the precipice of a 'Dark Era'
as the great clan that had heralded the Age of Enlightenment is torn asunder
in the ravages of a great civil war. A war in which the price was not only
existence, but the very philosophies which governed the lives of those
within it's dominion. Far removed from the turmoil though, Two paths
entwine, paths that seemed not unlike two sides of a coin both seek to learn
their place together in the face of opposition from both fate and
themselves. The Crimson Tide has begun.

Blessed
Solitude by LM Townsend on Merwolf's Academy of Bards [alt/über/complete]
This started out as a writing challenge whose subject was
"Solitude". I liked the idea of the story of a god/dess seeking
solitude. In a household of eight people, half of whom are children,
Solitude is a rare and elusive thing.

Congrats to Heartbrkn on her GPA score (4 is good, yes??). It's still raining here. We have had one or two dry moments but that's just the sky trying to fool us into believing summer has arrived. It doesn't last long. The rain comes back. It was "Pride" in London this Saturday. It did get a very brief mention on the news programmes - but then we did have bombs in London and a terrorist attack where car in flames rammed into Glasgow Airport so it's kind of understandable there wasn't more notice paid.
